Alex Morgan’s running career began nearly a decade ago in 2014 after trading in basketball shoes for spikes. After moderate success at the high school level, Alex wanted to take his running to the next level. In 2020 Morgan joined the University of Tennessee Running Club & Runner’s Market racing team, and, under the guidance of Coach Bobby Holcombe, saw significant improvements. In the few short years under Holcombe’s coaching, Morgan has compiled over 20 wins on the road and track, won the 2022 Blount Triple Crown of Running, and qualified for the Boston Marathon in his first marathon appearance.
As a coach, Morgan has coached the Heritage High School Cross Country and Track programs since 2018. During this time, Heritage has broken dozens of school records, ranging from the 400 to the 5K. Morgan has also coached multiple national qualifiers and earned Heritage their first state appearance for cross country in 2021. Morgan also serves as the Maryville site director for the Knoxville Youth Athletics summer cross country program, coaching athletes from the elementary to high school level.
